Will 2016's political upheaval affect Upper Hutt?
Hi folks,
So here we are in 2017 talking about property and all I can say so far is “same stuff, different year!” In the 1st week back after the holidays the phone has been ringing off the hook, although I have to say that this is the norm every year not just in busy markets like this.
When I was selling in London back in the day, (that makes me feel old) the busiest people around the 4th January were real estate agents and recruitment consultants, this was an annual occurrence and was what I call ‘new year, new life syndrome.” In essence as new years resolutions are set so people like to make those life changing decisions, whether that is buying a property or getting a new job.
As everyone is aware there were huge changes politically around the world in 2016 and there have been ramifications for New Zealand that will have an impact on our property market. Quite simply the number of applications to emigrate here has jumped hugely, particularly from the UK and the US, that’s a lot more people trying to make this wonderful country their home adding to already record numbers of new people arriving.
Will it make a difference to our Upper Hutt market? I would say "yes".
We are already seeing cashed up Aucklanders moving around the country and while their market seems to be slowing down ours certainly isn’t as the population grows in the Wellington region and that has a knock on effect for us.
If you are thinking of selling your home, would like an appraisal, or want more information on the Upper Hutt property market please call me on the numbers below or contact me via email steve@steveslicker.com alternately fill in your details here on my website.
